5 Tips For Getting Your Direct Mail Envelopes Open
Your direct mail success can easily be improved simply by changing your envelope design. Your envelope is the first thing that your prospect sees so it's very important that it entices them open it.
A power envelope design is one of the most important parts of a direct mail campaign, so you shouldn't take it lightly. In this article, you will learn 13 tips on envelope design along with how to improve the response rate from your direct mail mailings.

1) Teaser copy on the outside of the envelope
Using teaser copy on the outside of your envelope entices your recipients to learn more. It will raise their curiosity and as a result they will open your letters. If your letter doesn't get opened, then you don't have success. So this is the purpose of the teaser copy - to get the letter opened.
2) Spend more time on effective teaser copy
If you use the teaser copy technique, then you should spend just enough time for the teaser copy of the envelope as you do for your sales letter. If you do, you will find yourself with more orders from your direct mail mailings just from more letters getting opened alone.
3) Send a blank envelope
This is another great technique to do. You want to send an envelope with your return address and the prospects address with a real live stamp. And that's it. It will take more time to prepare since the live stamp is involved, but it will payoff in the form of more orders because of it. This technique works because your envelope will look personal, and personal envelopes get opened.
Another way to take this technique further is to write your address and the recipient's address in a blue ink pen. This is taking the personal appeal to another level and you will entice the reader to open it just to see what's inside.
4) A blank envelope but with typed letters
This is a variation of the previous tip, only using typed letters instead of a blue ink pen. This also will appear personal to your recipient and will save alot of time too. You should test this one along with tip above to see which one is more effective for you.
5) Include the word "first class" on the envelope
Having this form of teaser copy will increase your response rate. If you can have this stamped in red ink on your envelope then it will give the idea that your mail is very important and should be opened right now. This is a great way to get someone's attention and awesome for getting letters opened.
