Labor Day Meal - Don't Sweat Your Blue Collar Off, Cooking
There are many ways to labor less to cook your labor day meal; in fact, compared to the past, labor day cooking of today can be made literally free of all labor.
It so happens that the people who have to cook on labor day are so busy in the kitchen that they can hardly get a chance to enjoy their holiday. Moreover, the next day would be another working day as usual.
Here are a few tips that will enable you to labor less to cook your labor day meal and to enjoy your holiday more:
Plan Ahead
One method to labor less to cook your labor day meal is to plan and work ahead of time. This ensures that you will not be overburdened with work on labor day.
Plan your menu in such a way that the items can be prepared well in advance and stored or frozen in a refrigerator. Then, the only thing left for you to do is to make last minute preparations on labor day and just serve the dishes. For instance, vegetables can be chopped well in advance and stored in the refrigerator, desserts can be frozen for the event, and sausage balls can be prepared well in advance and frozen.
Do the Shopping Early
After you have planned your menu, shop in advance. Last minute shopping can be hectic, and you will not enjoy shopping in the midst of crowds. Moreover, you might not find a few items or you might just forget to purchase something.
Double Check Your Shopping List
Check your shopping list twice to see if you have purchased everything you need for labor day. If something is pending, purchase it immediately. If you can't find it in your usual store, get it from another. Otherwise, you will be forced to hunt madly for the missing item on the morning of the big day.
Use the Crock Pot
Include in your menu dishes that can be easily made in a crock pot. This will ensure a lot of hands free cooking, and you will have spend just a little time to prepare your crock pot treats. Popular items that require very little preparation and taste great in the evening are baked barbecue beans and barbecue ribs.
Grill Wisely
If you consider grilling to be a labor day tradition that should not be missed, marinate and rub the meat the previous night. Everything should be ready to go into the grill in the morning. At the same time, toss into the grill some of the vegetables that you had saved in the refrigerator.
Request the Help of Others
Take the help of family and friends. This will greatly enable you to labor less to cook your labor day meal. Encourage family and friends to contribute a special dish for the meal so that you don't have to prepare it yourself. More important, you don't even have to do the washing up after preparing the dish.
Encourage your spouse and children to join in the dish cleaning and preparation. Nobody has made any rules that you have to work on your own. Let others contribute their bit of the labor while you enjoy a glass of cool tea.
If you follow the above tips, you will look forward to labor day and not dread it. If you get some time for yourself on that day, you can be sure that you have been successful.
